Cruelty Free vs Not Tested On Animals vs Vegan
Cruelty-Free & Not Tested On Animals Claims
When a company claims it is “Cruelty-Free” or “Not Tested on Animals” this implies they do not test their products on any animals. In a perfect world these products would never be tested on animals, yet they often are.
Vegan Claims
Vegan products, however, are defined by their ingredients. Just like you can be assured your vegan dish is prepared without animal products, you can be certain that a vegan faux fur jacket is made without animal harming animals. Vegan home and body products fall into this same category. They are formulated without animal products or by-products. The term vegan specifcially implies anything that doesn’t contain any animal-derived products.
The Harsh Reality
Vegan products, while they may not contain any animal products or by-products, are not always considered a smart option. Why? Just because a product is Vegan, doesn’t automatically imply that the company doesn’t test the formula on animals. Sometimes they do. 😑
Marketing vs Reality
While you may think a product with a “Cruelty Free” or “Not Tested on Animals” label should be enough proof that it’s not tested on animals, right? Wrong.
There are currently no laws regulating the terms “Cruelty-Free” and “Not Tested On Animals”.
What You Can Do
The truth is, any company can claim their products are “Cruelty Free” or “Not Tested On Animals” yet still be tested on animals. Don’t make the mistake of buying these products and inadvertently supporting animal testing!
